Everything you need to know: A guide to networking for mums in Somerset

If you’re based in Somerset or the surrounding area and are looking for a local, relaxed networking group to meet other mums in business and take your children along with you, read on. Welcome to our guide to Freelance Mum networking events in Somerset.

It’s all about the netwalks

For local, in-person networking, we’re all about soaking up the countryside. Our signature netwalks are at the heart of Freelance Mum because they allow mums in business to get out in the fresh air, talk to people who get it, and build their network. Children of all ages and stages can come along, or you’re equally welcome to come on your own. We walk at the pace of the slowest member and the route is buggy-friendly.

Where in Somerset?

Where better to netwalk than in the beautiful setting of Tractors and Cream, Somerset’s favourite family-friendly glamping site? There’s easy parking, plenty for children to do, and you can enjoy the idyllic Somerset countryside. Tractors and Cream is just 15 minutes from the M5 and Clark’s Village, so easy to get to from surrounding villages, Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare.

When?

The Somerset Hub meet once a month on Tuesdays, 10 AM-11.30 AM except in August.

What to expect at a netwalk

Our netwalk events follow a tried and tested format that will put you at ease so you can focus on building real connections. The format is designed to give you 1:1 conversation as well as time to share experiences as a group.

At the Somerset Hub:

  • Icebreaker
  • Netwalk with focus questions
  • Activity—a simple activity mid-walk, that’s designed to get you thinking, reflecting, and connecting
  • 5 minutes with—an informal talk from an FM member

Come as you are—there are no rules or expectations about what to wear, and there’s nothing you need to prepare in advance. Just be mindful that the netwalk is outside, so dress for whatever the weather may bring. We recommend wellies!

Other networking events

If you can’t get out to a netwalk, or if you just want to see friendly faces more often, the Somerset Hub also host member-led events such as Coffee & Content and all Freelance Mum members have access to Freelance Mum whole-network events.

The benefits

Like with all things, with networking, you get back what you put in. Networking locally, as well as online, creates a sense of belonging and community, allows you to meet other mums in business, and is an opportunity to learn and make connections that will see you through.

We like to think Freelance Mum is a bit different and you’ll definitely enjoy our quirks. Speaking of which, if you see a rainbow on your netwalk, we’ll buy the coffee!

Freelance Mum is about more than finding new business. It’s a safe space to give and get support, offload, feel a sense of belonging and raise each other up.
