5 awesome benefits of joining a women’s networking group
While many people might support you in running your business, having a group of like-minded mums who get the juggle and have masses of expertise to share, is invaluable. Here are our top five benefits to joining a women’s networking group
- Real, lasting connections
Meeting fellow female business owners in the relaxed, safe environment of Freelance Mum networking events is like sewing a seed in nutrient-rich soil and nurturing it with water, sunlight and love. Just as that seed will grow into a strong, healthy plant, your connections will grow into strong, healthy relationships. And it’s those relationships that, ultimately, feed your business growth.
The Freelance Mum Swansea Hub, our newest FM seedling, was set up to support all those awesome South Wales women in business who want to meet like-minded women they know will help them on their freelance journeys.
“I used to go to the FM netwalks when I was running Butlers in the Buff. Even though I had business partners for support and advice, they were both men and sometimes I just needed some female support. I needed to be surrounded by other women who got the juggle of motherhood and running their own business, and that is exactly what FM offers.”

- Structure, strategy, and growth for your business
We love a cuppa and a chat, but there’s so much more to Freelance Mum than that. Our hubs have a diverse mix of women at various stages of their freelance journeys and with expertise in various industries. We learn from each other through connecting on netwalks, attending invaluable Lunch & Learn sessions, and working collaboratively.
Whether you need support with your business structure and strategy, marketing, accounting, or simply someone who can give you a fresh perspective, you’ll find your team through Freelance Mum.
- Keep your work-life balance on track
Did you know that one of the biggest barriers for women in entrepreneurship, and something that the Rose Review highlights as key to success, is a lack of relatable role models and mentors? And when you chuck motherhood into the mix, it makes it even harder.
As mothers, we have 168 hours in a week. We spend, on average, 93 hours per week on parenting duties and 56 hours sleeping. That leaves us with 19 hours per week to eat, work, self-care, exercise and breathe!
When we’re that busy, it can be difficult to keep sight of our ‘why’ and hold firm with maintaining the work-life balance that’s right for us and our families. Freelance Mum netwalks and events are designed to fit into your ‘mum schedule’ as well as your business schedule—you can bring children along to netwalks, and they’re welcome to make an appearance at our weekly Online Coffee Mornings and other FM events.
- Meaningful support
Meaningful networking is about the long game, about going beyond small talk and surface conversations. Only when you invest time, honesty, and genuine support does networking become meaningful and valuable.
At Freelance Mum, you will feel seen and heard, and over time, your connections will turn into friendships that will support you and your business for years to come.

- A safe space and a sense of belonging
One of the things our members often talk about is how safe and at ease they feel at Freelance Mum events. You can come along and be your whole self—a business owner, a mum, and on a good day, or a bad day. There’s no judgment at Freelance Mum.
“At Freelance Mum events I feel 100% comfortable chatting and sharing because it’s a safe space…Surrounded by FMs and other guests, I felt a tremendous sense of community and togetherness. (The Mega Meet-Up) was one of the first events I attended where I could be my whole self.”
Freelance Mum is about more than finding new business. It’s a safe space for women to give and receive support, offload, feel a sense of belonging, and raise each other up.
