Networking is all about making authentic, lasting connections. For small businesses, doing that locally can be key to growing a solid business. Freelance Mum has many local hubs across the Southwest—pockets of community where mums in business can find their people. Here’s our guide to networking for mums in the South Devon area.

What’s on for networking mums in South Devon?

Our signature netwalks are at the heart of Freelance Mum because they allow mums in business to get out in the fresh air, talk to like-minded people and build their network, with or without their children. Children of all ages and stages are welcome and we walk at the pace of the slowest member. All netwalk routes are push-chair friendly.

The South Devon Hub also host member-led events such as Coffee & Content and all members have access to Freelance Mum whole-network events.

Where in South Devon?

The Dartington Estate is the beautiful home of the South Devon Hub and netwalk. The group meet at The Dartington Estate Welcome Centre to head off on their walk, then finish at with drinks at one of the lovely venues in the estate.

When?

The South Devon Hub meet once a month on Thursdays, 10 AM-11.30 AM except in August.

What to expect

Our netwalk events follow a tried and tested format that’s designed to put you at ease so you can focus on building authentic connections.

At the South Devon Hub:

  • Icebreaker
  • Netwalk with focus questions
  • Activity—a simple activity mid-walk, that’s designed to get you thinking, reflecting, and connecting
  • 5 minutes with—we hear from another FM member

On all our netwalks, we try and pause for a moment to take an optional group photo and selfie. This gives you some easy material for your next social post and is a step towards growing your network. South Devon is crazy for their ‘Deer Selfie’! Yep, that’s a selfie with a deer in the background.

There are no rules or expectations about what to wear. Feel free to dress down or dress up—just come as you are and wear what you’re comfortable in. Just be mindful that the netwalk is outside, so you’ll need to be prepared for whatever the weather brings.

The benefits

Like with all things, with networking, you get back what you put in—the benefits of attending in-person networking in your neck of the woods are tenfold. Networking locally creates a sense of belonging and community, allows you to meet like-minded women who understand the juggle of running a business and being a mum, and is an opportunity to learn and make meaningful connections.

Oh, and one more thing…if you see a rainbow on your netwalk, we’ll buy the coffee!

Freelance Mum is about more than finding new business. It’s a safe space to give and get support, offload, feel a sense of belonging and raise each other up.
