At a recent virtual co-working session inside the Freelance Mum membership, I sat down to write a blog. I didn’t have a clear plan, I just knew that it was time to start blogging again. When one of the FMs, asked why I was returning to blogging, my answer was simple, “For SEO- and for that reason alone, it didn’t feel like a very interesting starting point”. Let’s face it, for SEO alone, it’s just not very inspiring.
Not everything has to be ‘sexy’
What happened next, was really interesting – and to me, it shows the power of the community. Even the simple act of showing up for a virtual co-working session, can help progress a thought.
The reply I had from Hazel, one of our members was “But blogging is supportive and that’s what Freelance Mum is all about.”
And she’s right.
In a world that often pushes us to chase visibility in loud, fast ways, it’s easy to overlook the quieter actions that build real, lasting foundations in our businesses. The simple act of showing up. Getting to know someone and all that they stand for, in a safe and supportive space, is everything that Freelance Mum stands for. Whether that’s in-person, or online, it’s a space that allows you to be whatever version of yourself you are that day.
A community that has grown with us
Over the years, Freelance Mum has evolved from one local netwalk, into a national community that supports mums in business both in person and online.

We’ve grown in reach, flexibility, and ambition. Yet what hasn’t changed is our core purpose: supporting and championing women in business, balancing work around motherhood. We pride ourselves in being a network (and when I say ‘network’, I mean that in every sense of the word) that can support women at every stage of their lives. A network that allows women to grow and evolve with their business.
The digital shift (and why it matters)
It goes without saying that since Freelance Mum began over 12 years ago, the world has changed.
There’s now a constant push and pull – the desire to return to more in-person connection, while also appreciating the ease and accessibility of an increasingly digital world. And while that shift brings its challenges, it has also opened doors.
Our Digital Hub means that location is no longer a barrier. Mums in business across the UK can connect, collaborate, and feel part of something bigger, without needing to be in the same place.

We’re now able to support more women in business than ever before, removing the limitation of needing a physical hub nearby.
But what hasn’t changed is this: connection matters.
Having a safe space where you can show up as you are, is powerful. And when you find the right space, with the right people, the impact is felt every single time.
Visibility isn’t just about social media
We often think of visibility as showing up on social media. But visibility online is much broader than that.
Blogging plays a key role in helping people find us, especially mums in business who are searching for support, connection, or community. It helps our website show up in searches, bringing new people into the Freelance Mum world.
In simple terms, “blogging for SEO” helps more mums in business, discover that they’re not doing this alone.
Quiet actions, powerful impact
So yes, blogging does have a dual purpose.
It supports SEO, helping more people find Freelance Mum. But as Hazel pointed out during our co-working session, it also sets an example within our community.
It reminds us that not everything in business needs to be big, bold, or instantly rewarding. Often, it’s the quieter, consistent actions that create real, lasting growth.
And when we all commit to those small steps, the ripple effect is powerful.
In many ways, it’s no different to coming along to an event – whether that’s in person or online. Taking the time to show up, start a conversation, and get to know someone. You never quite know where it might lead.

Because something as simple as ‘blogging for SEO’ isn’t just a task – it’s a way to build visibility, connection, and community. It’s about sharing thoughts and ideas, and reminding members that what they stand for matters.
If you’re looking for supportive, flexible networking with other mums in business across the UK, why not come and experience Freelance Mum for yourself? Join a virtual co-working session, an online Coffee Morning, or our Digital Hub and see how powerful community can be.
