As the summer fades and a new term begins, it’s a natural time for reflection and fresh starts. For mums in business, this season often comes with a mix of renewed energy and new challenges, above and beyond ‘the back to school run’. There’s a transition of the seasons, which can feel impossible to ignore. At Freelance Mum, we believe that when women in business come together, we’re not just sharing networks — we’re building resilience, kindness and strength in uncertain times.
Finding strength in uncertain times
In a world where uncertainty and division can often dominate the headlines, community really matters. In fact, community is always at the heart of Freelance Mum: mums in business coming together to support each other. A network in the truest sense. Whether it’s through a sideways smile on a Netwalk, encouragement at the Coffee Morning, or fresh ideas at the Digital Hub, these small, regular connections remind us that we’re not alone. And that there is someone else, who ‘gets it’.

Conversations that matter
At our recent Freelance Mum Coffee Morning, the conversations ranged from the practical to the powerful — everything from juggling the back-to-school routine to the way symbols, like the English flag, are being used and understood in today’s climate.
These aren’t just casual chats. They’re opportunities to explore what it means to be women in business right now — navigating family life, cultural shifts, and a fast-changing world. When we gather, we create space for openness, kindness, and thoughtful debate — and that strengthens us all. It allows women in business, to be seen and heard and to spurred on again, renewed.
In fact, I had message before the Freelance Mum Coffee Morning this week, from a member, who was (in her own words) ‘Having a wobble’. She wanted to see other faces, but not talk too much, as she was struggling after the summer holidays. I checked in with her after, to see how she was and her reply was ‘Thank you so much for this morning, it was good to get back into work mode and hear from other working mums’.
A community with impact
The Freelance Mum Impact Report showed what many of us already feel: community isn’t just a “nice to have.” It’s a vital business tool. Our members reported that Freelance Mum made a tangible difference to their growth, confidence, and resilience. For mums in business, who often juggle multiple roles, that support can be game-changing.
Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards — it’s about finding a place where you belong, and where your business is understood in the context of your whole life.

Embracing the new season
September always brings a sense of new beginnings. Just as the seasons turn, mums in business are adjusting to the rhythm of school runs, shifting priorities, and planning ahead. It’s easy to feel pulled in all directions and forget your own personal ‘why’ or even set a simple goal. It makes the simple act of ‘showing up’ even more inportant – the chance to hear your own thoughts, say out loud, what you’re thinking – form a plan and break it into chunks.
And by connecting with others on a regular basis, it becomes ‘gentle accountabilty’ and members naturally check in, to see how you’re doing.
There’s the growth that you gain, by being with others, that gives you more confidence and clarity. Whether you’re launching something new, seeking accountability, or simply craving conversation, there’s a space for you at Freelance Mum.
Stronger together
At Freelance Mum, we know that women in business thrive when they are supported. Together, we create more than networks — we create belonging, purpose, and joy. As the darker evenings draw in, it becomes even more important to be a light for each other. To have fun – to make each other smile. Delight in the small stuff. Cherish the moments.

Because (as cheesy at it sounds) when mums succeed, families succeed. And when families succeed, society succeeds.
